Henrietta Skala Baritzal Nature Preserve - Grant Township
The property contains 2 parcels and is approximately 19 acres with Fox Lake comprising the northern boundary and Squaw Creek forming the western property line. Several acres of the parcel are open water, a result of years of shoreline erosion by flowing water, fluctuating water tables, and occasional flooding. The entire property is hydraulically connected to Fox Lake and lies within a 100-year floodplain. The topography is depressional to very gently sloping. Although the vegetation is predominately narrow-leaved cattail and willows today, an earlier study done in 1978 indicated a variety of herbaceous plants including sedge, sweet flag, arrowhead, blue-joint grass, and marsh skullcap.

LCLC is hopeful that some of the original seed bank is still present in the wet organic soil found throughout the parcel and can be renewed through management practices. Any land improvement activity will be done within the realm of keeping the property within its natural ecosystem as a wetland shoreline.
